ABOUT MVSF
Marilyn Lorraine Van Stone

Marilyn was born in Edmonton, Alberta, the only child of Malcolm and Eleanor Strong. The family moved to Toronto when Marilyn was in her teens. Upon graduating from high school she completed a training program as a legal secretary and worked in this field for a number of years.

In 1959, Marilyn and Barry Van Stone married, and in 1966, they had a daughter, Leanne. In 1969, they had their second child, a son, Bruce.

Marilyn worked as a legal secretary for many years but eventually left to take a position with the Canadian National Exhibition executive offices where she assisted in coordinating events for the summer fair.

Marilyn Lorraine Van Stone
May 27, 1937 - April 8, 1986

She also was involved in her community with both the Girl Guides of Canada and Big Brothers. Her hobbies included ceramics, interior decorating and gardening, and her family was always her first priority.

In 1985 Marilyn was diagnosed with lung cancer and was told she had only months to live. She fought a courageous battle and finally passed away eight months after her diagnosis. During this time she always displayed the dignity and grace that were such a fundamental part of her character. She was selfless until the end, worrying only about what would happen to her survivors rather than focusing on her own plight. Marilyn stands as a symbol of compassion, bravery, integrity and generosity. Her life touched many others in countless ways, and now through the establishment of the foundation we hope to continue her legacy.
